Many consider Italy to be the fashion hub of the world, some might argue Paris or New York but Italy definitely makes the top tier. In terms of soccer jerseys they set the standard for simple, sophisticated and sexy design. The Serie A’s most notorious teams (Juventus, Inter, AC Milan and AS Roma) generally have the same basic jersey template but each year they find a way to update and modernize their look. For the first time Inter Milan ditched their solid black and blue stripes and instead opted for a black shirt with blue pinstripes. It’s the first time their classic look has been scrapped in their 100 year history. This is definitely a more youthful look, one I’m sure they hope changes their recent lack of success. I really like Inter Milan’s white jersey, which features a subtle cross that is a tribute to one of the city’s patron saints.
As nice as Inter Milan’s jersey looks they’ve been outdone by their neighbors AC Milan. Their home jersey is awesome featuring St. George’s cross (not the club crest) and a two toned red and black striped design. It’s a very sleek look and fits the trend of becoming younger, hipper and more modern. On their away kit they’ve introduced a new badge called the “Casa de Milan” which again replaces the club’s traditional crest. Club officials have said the team crest has not been changed (it’s featured on their 3rd kit) but this new logo is a symbol of the city. Looks like an AT&T logo and I prefer St. George’s cross instead. Speaking of which their third kit, which is citrus golden yellow and green, is inspired by Brazil. AC Milan has had many famous Brazilians come through their club: Kaka, Ronaldinho, Robinho, Pato and of course Ronaldo.
Juventus major change this season was updating their away jersey from last year’s pink and black to a bright royal blue. The blue and yellow trim are the royal colors of Turin, the clubs home town. You’ll also see what I call the Star Inception design, a star within a star within another star. This will be the last year that Nike produces Juventus’ jerseys, they’ll be switching to Adidas in 15/16.
