I am absolutely devastated that my French team, Evian Thonon, dropped their “water bottle” design in favor of a new look. The classic Evian mountain range is gone and I don’t know what to do. Their home jersey is boring and uninspiring, it’s a down right shame. At least their away jersey has some flair with an ice crystal design but it’s not the same. Is it a coincidence that with their new uniform design they are in dead last place and headed towards relegation? I think not. Thankfully there are some very cool jerseys in Ligue 1 this year as there typically always is.
For the second straight year Bordeaux has a white jersey with a colored v-design and unique pattern. Last year they had pink and blue paint splatter and this year the design is small abstract pictures of their home stadium Stade Chaban-Delmas. It’s virtually impossible to see but trust me I did my homework. Bordeaux also has a “heritage” jersey featuring the Chevron design, vintage colors and a historic retro look that screams 1982. Paris St. Germain, Olympique Lyon and Marseille all kept a conservative approach this year not deviating too far from their norm but introduced quality looking jerseys with a slight twist.
It seems that each year one team decides to take on a military camouflage/fatigue patterned jersey. First it was Everton with Tim Howard’s goalie jersey, Napoli had an alternate kit last year and now SC Bastia has one of their own. We have some interesting kits in the Ligue 2 side as well. Clermont Foot has a quasi Manchester United gingham style jersey with a rider on a horse towards the bottom. I like the Stade Brest jersey with the weird three way arrow symbol (I’m assuming an advertisement?) and the Stewie Griffin like face on their shorts.
