New York City Football Club kicked off their inaugural season against another exhibition team in the MLS the Orlando City SC in Florida on Sunday. NYCFC scored first in the 76th minute when US National team midfielder Mix Diskerud struck a right footed curler from just outside the box into the opposite corner of the net. The assist was made by NYCFC’s star signing David Villa, the former FC Barcelona and Spanish National team superstar. New York would’ve had the win but the only player who’s a bigger star than Villa held them in check. Orlando City’s Kaka scored in extra time to equalize the score at 1-1.
For as much hype as David Villa and eventually Frank Lampard will bring to NYCFC, Kaka is bringing that to Florida. The Brazilian midfielder spent the best years of his career with AC Milan and Real Madrid where he scored 93 goals from 2003 to 2013. Kaka also has 29 international goals in 89 appearances and was a member of the 2002 World Cup Brazil team. Orlando City’s debut marks the first time in 14 years (since 2001) that the MLS has played in the state of Florida. The Miami Fusion & Tampa Bay Mutiny only lasted a handful of seasons and then collapsed into the abyss. Yes those are MLS teams and not WWE XFL teams. Their home opener was a historic moment for the MLS and 62,510 were there to witness it.
Below are some images from FIFA 15 showing off the NYCFC and Orlando home and away kits. For some reason both New York and Orlando are only available in Seasons and Career mode but not in Kick-Off. You can also bid on their uniforms in Ultimate Team but fair warning they are going for a ridiculous price. However since I had some money to burn I purchased both kits along with David Villa, Frank Lampard and Kaka to make the images authentic.
